PULSE: Breast Cancer: What Young Women Need to Know

 

The American Cancer Society reports that 95% of new cases are in women age 40 and older. However, breast cancer can strike earlier. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Web site recommends that women start doing monthly self-breast exams starting at age 20. Angela Springstead was a college student when she noticed a lump under her left breast. The lump was found to be a cancerous tumor. She underwent surgery, intensive chemotherapy, and radiation. Early detection saved her life.
